Tips For Freshmen- Do’s and Don’ts of High School

ARTICLE BY G-STAR STUDENT: ARIELLA SEVERIN

For incoming freshmen, learning the ins and outs of high school can be hard. Here are some

tips to help you out!

Tip One: Stay Organized

With 7 classes in total, sometimes getting work done can be a chore. Especially, when you’re
unorganized. Keep a journal where you can write down all your homework, upcoming tests, or
quizzes. At G-Star, we have even and odd days. Getting two separate binders, one for even and
one for odd days can also help you be organized and keep you caught up in your classes.

Tip Two: Sign Up for Clubs
If you have trouble making friends, clubs are the best way to find other students who share
similar interests with you. G-Star has a bunch of clubs where you can explore and find friends.
We have First Priority, GSA, Doc Club, Fashion Club, Book Club, Politics Club, and even Chess
Club! Always pay attention to morning announcements to hear about any clubs you might be
interested in.

Tip Three: Balancing School and Your Life
Everyone should have fun and have a good time in high school, but learning how to balance
responsibility and enjoying yourself is imperative to have a successful high school career. Find
an hour or two to make time to study and do homework. After you're done doing your work, you
can reward yourself with whatever you want. Just make sure you can make time for yourself
and your schoolwork. Balance is key.

Tip Four: Be Yourself
We know, this is very cheesy, but it's true. A lot of times, you want to fit in and seem cool to your
peers, but maintain your personal beliefs and morals. Nothing is cooler than someone who
knows their worth and who they are as a person. Be original and unique.

We hope this helped you and gave you some guidance. High School is hard, but just know you're
not alone!
